What to Know Before You Buy

335i vs 335Xi

The 335i (RWD) and 335Xi (AWD) have different front suspension geometry. The H&R Sport (50490-4) and Race (50490-88) in this guide fit RWD 335i Sedan only. For 335Xi, use the H&R 50494 kit designed for xDrive models.

Vehicle Age & Shock Condition

2007–2011 E90s are 14–18 years old. Factory shocks are likely worn. Installing new springs on tired dampers can feel bouncy. Consider Bilstein B6 or B8 when installing springs for the best ride quality.

Alignment & Camber

Drops under 1.3" (H&R Sport, Swift) typically stay within factory alignment specs. The H&R Race (-2.0" front) will require camber plates or adjustable arms for optimal tire wear. Always budget for a professional alignment after installation.

N54 Platform

The 2007–2011 335i uses the N54 twin-turbo inline-six. The E90 sedan shares suspension components with the 328i Sedan. Spring kits designed for 328i/335i Sedan E90 (07-11) will fit your 335i.

Best Overall

H&R Sport Springs

$389 $229 • Made in Germany • Progressive Rate

H&R Sport Springs for 2007-2011 BMW 335i Sedan E90

The H&R Sport (50490-4) delivers a 1.3" front and 1.2" rear drop on the 2007–2011 BMW 335i Sedan E90. Designed specifically for the RWD 335i, it provides a balanced stance with a progressive spring rate that maintains daily comfort while reducing body roll and improving turn-in. The most affordable option in this guide.

H&R springs are cold-wound from 54SiCr6 steel in Germany. Forum feedback from E90 335i owners is consistently positive — the Sport sits lower than stock without the harshness of the Race springs. Ideal for daily-driven 335is.

Best Aggressive Drop

H&R Race Springs

$389 $229 • Made in Germany • Progressive Rate

H&R Race Springs for 2007-2011 BMW 335i Sedan E90

The H&R Race (50490-88) delivers the largest fixed drop in this guide: 2.0" front and 1.5" rear on the 335i Sedan E90. The same kit fits 328i Sedan (07-11) and 335i Coupe E92 (07-13). The aggressive drop reduces fender gap significantly but uses a firmer progressive rate.

Camber correction is strongly recommended at -2.0" front. The Race is ideal for owners who want maximum stance without going adjustable. Made in Germany. At the same price as the Sport, it's a value choice for those who prioritize drop over comfort.

Swift Spec-R Lowering Springs

$530 $318 • Japan • Linear Rate

Swift Spec-R Lowering Springs for 2007-2013 BMW 335i E90/E92

The Swift Spec-R (4X905R) is the only linear-rate spring in this guide, designed for track-oriented 335i owners. It delivers a 1.0" front and 0.8" rear drop — the most conservative in this guide but tuned for optimal suspension geometry within the OEM shock's usable stroke. Fits both E90 Sedan and E92 Coupe 335i.

Swift's H5S.TW proprietary material aims to reduce unsprung mass and eliminate coil bind. The Spec-R is popular with HPDE and SCCA competitors. Japan-made. Best choice if you prioritize handling predictability over maximum drop.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need new shocks when installing lowering springs?

Not required, but recommended. E90 335is are 14+ years old; factory shocks are likely worn. Installing new springs on tired dampers can feel bouncy. Consider Bilstein B6 or B8 when installing springs for the best ride quality.

Will lowering springs void my factory warranty?

2007–2011 335is are well past factory warranty. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a dealer cannot void your entire warranty for aftermarket parts, but warranty claims related to the modification can be denied.

Do lowering springs affect ride quality?

Yes. Conservative drops (Swift at -1.0" F) maintain near-stock comfort. Aggressive drops (H&R Race at -2.0" F) are noticeably firmer. Pairing springs with worn dampers will make any kit feel harsh.

I have a 335Xi. Which kits fit?

The kits in this guide fit RWD 335i only. For 335Xi (AWD), use the H&R Sport 50494 designed for 325Xi/328Xi/335Xi Sedan. The suspension geometry differs between RWD and xDrive.
