What to Know Before You Buy
PASM vs Non-PASM
PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) is the factory adaptive damping system. Many 718 Boxsters and Caymans have PASM. H&R offers separate PASM and non-PASM spring kits — verify your car's equipment before purchasing.
982 Platform
The 982 is the 2017+ Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman (four-cylinder turbo). It replaced the 981 (2012–2016). Suspension geometry differs; 981 springs do not fit 982.
Base vs S vs GTS
H&R offers trim-specific kits for base 718, Boxster S/Cayman S, and GTS. PASM availability varies by trim. Match the kit to your exact model and PASM status.
Alignment
Porsche recommends alignment after lowering. The 1.2" drop typically stays within factory alignment tolerance. Budget for a professional alignment after installation.
H&R Sport Lowering Springs (S w/ PASM)
The H&R Sport Spring Kit (28865-1) with PASM fits the 2017–2023 Porsche 718 Boxster S and Cayman S with PASM. It delivers approximately 1.2" front and 1.2" rear drop. H&R springs are cold-wound from 54SiCr6 steel in Germany. The progressive rate balances daily comfort with improved handling.
This is the primary option for 718 S models with PASM. Fits both Boxster S and Cayman S. For GTS with PASM, use the GTS-specific kit.
Pros
- Fits Boxster S and Cayman S w/ PASM
- Equal 1.2" drop
- Made in Germany
- Best price-to-performance
Cons
- Requires PASM
- S models only (not base, not GTS)
H&R Sport Lowering Springs (Base w/o PASM)
The H&R Sport Spring Kit (28865-1) without PASM fits the 2017–2023 Porsche 718 Boxster, Boxster S, Cayman, and Cayman S without PASM. Same 1.2" front and 1.2" rear drop. This is the most affordable option for base 718 models.
One kit covers multiple trims (base and S) as long as the car does not have PASM. Verify your 718's equipment before ordering.
Pros
- Fits base and S w/o PASM
- Lowest price
- Made in Germany
Cons
- Does not fit PASM-equipped cars
H&R Sport Lowering Springs (Boxster S w/o PASM)
The H&R Sport Spring Kit (28865-1) for Boxster S without PASM fits 2017–2023 Porsche 718 Boxster S. Same 1.2" front and 1.2" rear drop. Use this kit if you have a Boxster S without PASM and want S-specific calibration.
H&R Sport Lowering Springs (GTS w/ PASM)
The H&R Sport Spring Kit (28865-1) with PASM for Boxster GTS fits 2017–2023 Porsche 718 Boxster GTS with PASM. Same 1.2" front and 1.2" rear drop. H&R also offers a Sport D&S variant with a larger drop (-1.8") for GTS. This standard Sport kit is the conservative option.
H&R VTF Adjustable Lowering Springs
The H&R VTF (Variable Tieferlegungs Federn) is the only adjustable option in this guide. It fits 2017–2023 Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman with or without PASM. H&R offers trim-specific VTF kits (base, S, GTS). You can fine-tune ride height to your preference.
At roughly twice the cost of fixed springs, the VTF is for owners who want flexibility. Installation is more involved than fixed springs.
Pros
- Adjustable ride height
- Fits w/ or w/o PASM (trim-specific)
- Made in Germany
Cons
- Significantly more expensive
- More complex installation

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need new shocks when installing lowering springs?
No. All kits in this guide are designed to work with factory PASM dampers (or standard dampers for non-PASM fitment). If your 718 has high mileage, consider refreshing the dampers when installing springs.
Will lowering springs void my factory warranty?
Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a dealer cannot void your entire warranty for installing aftermarket parts. However, warranty claims directly related to the modification can be denied.
Do 982 springs fit the 981 (2012–2016)?
No. The 981 has different suspension geometry. Use our 718 981 guide for 2012–2016 Boxster and Cayman.
Should I get lowering springs or coilovers?
Lowering springs offer a set drop at lower cost ($294–$719 vs. $1,500+ for coilovers). If you want adjustable ride height and damping, coilovers are the better choice. Check our Suspension Buyers Guide for a full comparison.
