The Bilstein 5100 shocks set is a high-performance suspension upgrade designed for 1986-1995 Toyota Tacoma 4WD models with a 3-4 inch lift. Featuring a monotube design with a 46mm digressive piston, these shocks enhance both on-road handling and off-road capability by reducing body roll and nose dive. Constructed with a zinc-plated finish, they offer excellent corrosion and rust resistance for durability in harsh environments. The shocks are extended length to accommodate lifted systems, providing increased travel and stability for larger tires and off-road use. Backed by a limited lifetime warranty, they are engineered for heavy-duty loads, towing, and off-road terrain, ensuring long-lasting performance and reliability.
These shocks are specifically designed for 4WD vehicles within the specified year range and are a direct bolt-on replacement for factory units, reusing existing mounting hardware, washers, bushings, and nuts. The kit includes four shocks—two front and two rear—optimized for vehicles with 3-4 inch lifts. Suitable for lifted trucks with larger wheels and tires, they improve ride compliance over bumps and rough terrain, making them ideal for off-road adventures or demanding work environments. Factory mounting plates are sold separately, and these shocks are intended for lifted vehicles rather than factory-spec models, which should use Bilstein 4600 series shocks for daily driving.

[Blog Post: Bilstein 5100 vs. 4600, Major Differences](https://www.shocksurplus.com/pages/bilstein-4600-vs-5100-series-the-lowdown)
Bilstein 5100 shocks utilize a monotube design, with a 46mm digressive piston, to increase road handling characteristics both on and off-road. The single tube body allows for rapid heat transfer between the shock oil to the shock body, and then dissipated further to reduce shock fade. German engineering combined with US manufacturing ensures optimum performance and longevity for upwards of 100k miles (real customer feedback!). The 5100 series is more compliant in tougher situations and off-road terrain compared to the 4600 series. Factory spec vehicles should use the 4600 series shocks as the valving is more appropriate for daily driven vehicles and pavement environments.
