The Cusco Limited Slip Differential Type-RS 1 Way Rear is a high-performance LSD designed for the Mazda MX-5 (NA6CE) models from 1989 to 1993. Engineered to improve traction and handling, this differential features adjustable settings that can be customized through a simple overhaul, allowing drivers to select two of three available configurations. The Type RS model utilizes springs to absorb initial torque, providing a smoother engagement compared to the Type MZ. Its low-friction design ensures efficient power transfer to the wheels, reducing power loss and enhancing overall performance. This LSD is built with precision components to deliver consistent, reliable operation on both street and track environments, making it an ideal upgrade for enthusiasts seeking improved cornering and acceleration.
Designed specifically for the 1989–1993 Mazda MX-5 (NA6CE), the Cusco Type RS LSD is a direct replacement for the factory differential. It is suitable for street use, track days, and spirited driving, offering enhanced grip and stability during aggressive maneuvers. Installation involves replacing the existing rear differential with this bolt-on unit, which is compatible with the stock housing. The kit includes the LSD unit itself, with no additional components required for installation. This differential is an excellent choice for drivers aiming to optimize traction and handling in both mild and moderately tuned vehicles, providing a significant upgrade over standard limited slip units for improved lap times and driving confidence.

Overview
A Cusco Limited Slip Differential offers the absolute best in traction. Cusco LSD allow you to choose 2 of 3 settings with each unit just with a simple overhaul. The Type RS springs absorb the initial torque. Compared to the Type MZ, the Type RS s initial torque comes on more gently. The response of the RS has lower friction and in turn, is transfers power to the ground more efficiently. The Low Initial Torque means Less Power Loss. This equates to lower lap times, even for a mildly tuned vehicle. The low pressure on the clutch plates improves durability and lowers chatter. To top it off, the reduced pressure allows the driver to change the LSD oil less frequently. Steady coil movement is assured by special precision springs set in the pressure plate. These springs are made to be resilient and allow for stable operation. Because these plates do not utilize a cone clutch, they do not stick and allow for increased longevity. The Type RS transfers extreme power without slipping and responds quickly with pedal inputs. This differential is ideal for drag racing or going for drifting. Contact Us with any questions..
Cusco recommends the following setups for the following drivetrains.
- 1 way LSD: Specially suited for front wheel drive cars and AWD front axle cars.Activates under acceleration, and acts as a true LSD when the throttle is off.
- 1.5 way LSD: Activates under acceleration with less under-steer under deceleration than on a 2 way LSD. Recommended for those who want to reduce under-steer.
- 2 way LSD: Recommended on rear wheel drive cars and AWD rear axle cars. Activates on both acceleration and deceleration. Recommended for those who prefer aggressive driving and big angle drifting.
