â–¶ Vehicle Fitments
The Skyjacker 4" Softride Front Springs for 1973-1987 General Motors trucks are high-performance leaf springs designed to enhance ride quality and wheel travel. Constructed from American steel, each leaf is shot-peened with hard steel pellets at high velocities, which compresses the surface and significantly increases tensile strength. This shot-peening process helps maximize wheel travel and ride comfort while maintaining spring durability. The springs feature bolt-style spring clips that eliminate friction, unlike traditional bend clips that can cause binding and friction. Additionally, the springs taper along their entire length, allowing for more flex at the leaf ends, which distributes loads evenly and reduces the risk of leaf dig-in, resulting in improved load handling and ride stability.
These springs are specifically designed as a direct replacement for 1973-1987 GM trucks, making them suitable for off-road, towing, or improved daily driving performance. They are intended for vehicles with a chassis compatible with this fitment and serve as an upgrade to stock suspension components. Installation involves bolt-on replacement of existing springs, providing a straightforward upgrade for those seeking enhanced durability and ride quality. The kit includes the necessary leaf springs and mounting hardware for a complete installation, ensuring compatibility with the specified vehicle range and application.

Overview
Overview
Softride(R) springs use only American steel and the individual leafs of each spring are shot-peened with hard steel pellets at very high velocities. This shot-peening compresses the surface of the steel thereby increasing the tensile strength of the spring. Without this shot-peening procedure, the maximum wheel travel and ride quality could not be achieved without sacrificing the life of the spring. Softride(R) springs use bolt style spring clips, eliminating friction. Other spring designs use the c in. style bend clips which bend tightly over the spring leafs causing binding and friction. Skyjacker(R) Softride(R) springs taper over the entire length of the leaf creating more flex at the leaf ends. This tapering distributes loads more evenly over a greater area and reduces the tendency for one leaf to dig into the leaf above it.
